Eweonam - Our Youngest Teller

When it finally clicks!

It has taken our star storyteller Eweonam a little longer to understand some of our English-language assignments and conversations through the Zoom screen. But like all of the students, she has put everything she has into learning how to craft a story.

And in week nine, she showed up.

EWEONAM — AUGUST 19, 2026
“The Mango”

“The title of my story is ‘The Mango.’

Mango is a delicious tropical fruit that many people love. It has a sweet taste. Mangoes grow on mango trees, especially in warm countries.

They can be eaten fresh or used to make juice, ice cream, and other tasty foods. Mango is also a good source of vitamins and other nutrients.

It is not only delicious, but also refreshing and enjoyable, especially on a hot day.

For many people, a ripe mango is one of the sweetest gifts of nature.

Thank you. That is my story.”

EWEONAM — SEPTEMBER 30, 2026
“The Laughing Goat”

“The title of my story is ‘The Laughing Goat.’

Once upon a time, we lived in a small village. We had a funny goat named Lily.

Lily was a female goat. She was different from other goats because she laughed whenever she saw something funny.

One morning, my father took Lily to the market. On their way, Lily saw a man slip on a banana peel and fall gently onto the grass.

She opened her mouth and laughed loudly.

Everyone at the market turned to look.

My father pulled Lily away and said, ‘Lily! Please stop.’

But Lily could not stop.

Lily saw a little boy trying to carry a basket that was too big for him, and she started laughing again.

Soon, everyone around began laughing too.

My father started smiling. My father then realized that Lily’s funny laugh could make people happy.

From that day on, whenever anyone at the market felt sad, they would visit Lily.

Everyone would laugh with her.

A little laugh can bring happiness to everyone around you.

Thank you.”

SIX WEEKS APART

The difference is visible on the page.

In August, Eweonam described a mango.

Six weeks later, she created Lily.

There is a character, a place, a problem, dialogue, repetition, humor, a turning point and an ending. When she performed the story, she even gave Lily a laugh and a goat sound. The other students began laughing with her.

The facts had become a story.
