A Conversation With Matthew

My first attempt at teaching storytelling over Zoom with Elder Matthew from Ghana.

There is a rich storytelling tradition in Ghana, but personal narrative is different. Stories have traditionally centered on history, folklore and community, rather than shaping an individual experience into a story.

The chief and elders in Adaklu invited us to come and teach personal narrative as part of a larger effort to re-ignite the tradition and love of storytelling in the community.

As Matthew has said, “I was very much happy because we are starting a new thing for people also to build upon.”
