MY STORY
One of my childhood homes
The inspiration for my artwork ultimately came from my deep love of nature and the childhood homes I had in the wild.
See more of my work here.
I didn’t always have a voice.
My parents divorced when I was four and headed in completely different directions, playing tug-of-war with my brother and me.
My dad was a blue-collar innovator who built things with his hands. He lived off the grid on the wild Northern California coast - practical, resourceful, brilliant, and reclusive.
My mom was a city girl with a trust fund, who settled in a beautiful flat in San Francisco with sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
I grew up in both worlds.
Private schools and one-room trailers.
Fancy restaurants or leftovers re-heated on wood stoves.
Hand-me-downs and thrift store Christmas or brand new shiny boxes and sweaters that itched.
This dichotomy was a lesson in constant adaptation — and it was hard.
-
For years, I saw the world from the outside, not knowing where to stand or which people were my people.
I was bold and brash, and quiet and shy.
I didn’t know the rules because they were constantly changing.
Over time, I learned to speak up, not louder but clearer.
By telling my own story out loud, I began to understand that honest communication was the only real way to connect.
When I started sharing who I was, an artist, a storyteller, a founder and a messy person with dishes in the sink, a woman who wrestles with imposter syndrome, still faces her ghosts of childhood insecurity, and absolutely hates elevators, I began to see it’s the whole of me that is the value, not just the curated parts.
I finally became confident, open, and real.
It is authenticity that builds the truest human connections, not perfection.
My own self-discovery, my own revelry in my humanness, and my love for the humanness in everyone else is what shapes my work today.
Here’s how that story became my career.
My Work
My commitment to clear, honest, and sometimes vulnerable communication runs through everything I do.
I started my creative career selling paper in the rain at the Portland Saturday Market.
Always curious about what I could do next, what I could do better, I eventually taught myself to make mixed-media fine artwork that has taken me to art shows and galleries all over the country.
For more than twenty years, I’ve lived an entrepreneurial life. Along with my fine art career, I’ve owned and operated several small businesses in the Portland area.
Like most small business owners, I’ve learned a lot over the years through trial, error, and plenty of humility.
Over the years, I’ve had thousands of conversations about being an artist and entrepreneur, and I learned a very simple truth: people connect most when you can clearly talk about who you are.
In business, I learned that people want to know me, the polished, buttoned-up business version, and some of the human underneath.
They don’t care about my dishes, but they want to know what motivates me, how I think the way I think, and what histories led me to so many viable careers.
Each of those conversations shaped how I work with others; I’ve channeled that insight into mentorship, helping countless artists and creative entrepreneurs (including many in the early days of Etsy) refine everything from website copy and product photography to logos, bios, and branding.
Every project, whether it’s art, storytelling, or strategy, begins with the same goal: to help people see and express themselves with confidence and clarity.
Today, I bring that entire experience directly to those looking to improve how they speak about their work.
I am a Communication Specialist.I am dedicated to helping individuals and small business owners express themselves with clarity, purpose, and the authenticity that creates real, lasting connection.
Because the goal isn't just better words, it's telling your story better.
